Static charge is produced by the contact and
separation of materials:shoes and floors, clothes&
the human body, parts being moved on or from surfaces.The generated charge will reside on the body
until it is discharged - the familiar electric shock
that all of us have experienced.It’s the heat and light of
this shock that does the damage. Properly fitted and
grounded wrist straps prevent any static charge from
building up so there’s no discharge to your products.
The wrist strap is your first line of defense
against ESD. Wrist straps, when properly worn and
grounded, fulfill the requirements of
ANSI/ESD S20.20, paragraph 6.2.2.1

Foot grounders are used where wrist straps are not practical, such as tasks which require mobility. They must be used with properly grounded ESD protective floor finish or floor mats to provide a continuous electrical path from the user directly to the ESD ground. Foot grounders function exactly the same way as wrist straps by providing a ground path from the moisture layer on the wearer’s skin through the foot grounder to the grounded floor surface.
Accepted industry standards dictate that foot grounders be worn on both feet to ensure that one foot is always in contact with the floor or floor mat at all times. It is important that personnel are instructed in the proper use and maintenance of foot grounders, especially the necessity of
placing the grounding tab between the foot and shoe.
